A man jumped to his death from a downtown parking garage this morning after he tried but failed to drive his car off the 12th floor, authorities said.

The apparent suicide happened near the corner of Milam and Polk around 9 a.m., said Patrick Trahan, spokesman for the Houston Fire Department.

No one else was injured.

Authorities were summoned to the garage after onlookers spotted the front end of the man’s vehicle hanging over the parking garage’s ledge, stopped by steel wires. The man then got out of the vehicle and jumped, Trahan said.

The incident remains under investigation and authorities have blocked traffic in the immediate area.
